Daniel B. Meador, 92, formally of Urbana, passed away Friday, May 23 2014 in Crystal Lake, IL.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am, on Saturday, May 31, 2014 in the Woodlawn Cemetery Chapel, Urbana.

He was a horticulture specialist for the University of Illinois Extension service for 25 years. "Dr. Dan" advised and developed relationships with many fruit growers across the state of Illinois. In recognition of his service, the State Horticultural Society awarded him their Hall of Fame Award in 1991.

Dan was an avid gardener and a keen follower of all University of Illinois athletic teams.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and a career reservist in the United States Air Force.

Survivors include his children, Melissa (Keith) Richmond of Little Rock, AR and Robert (Karen) of Crystal Lake; grandchildren Kerry, Carl (Richmond), Ian, Nathaniel (Meador); his sisters Patricia Dier and Caroline Graham; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Mary.
