Obituary

- Clyde R. Smith, 95, of Urbana, IL, passed away at 8:24 A.M., Thursday, June 15, 2017 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M., Monday, June 19, 2017 at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana, with visitation from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. Burial will be held at the Danville National Cemetery, Danville, Illinois with military rites provided by the Danville American Legion Post 210.

Mr. Smith was born September 10, 1921 in Casey, IL, a son of Everett R.and Zona Ethyl Smith. He married Phyllis R. Ulrey on June 24, 1956 in Casey, IL. She preceded him in death on May 30, 2016. Survivors include two daughters, Cindy(Bill) Heck and Pam(Jeff) Edwards, both of Urbana, IL; Six grandchildren, Shawna(Casey) Gernentz of Gifford, IL, Jessica McDade of Urbana, Miranda Heck of Urbana, Keenan Lyons of Sheldon, IL, Jordan Edwards of Urbana, and Kaylee Edwards of Urbana; 8 great grandchildren, a brother, George Smith of Lima, OH and a sister, Loretta Goble of Martinsville, IL, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

Mr. Smith never met a stranger and always made people feel loved. He always had a story to tell and man, could he tell them! He could make people laugh or comfort them with his big hugs. He was humble, kind, honest, loving, gentle, but very strong. He adored his family and he loved them to the moon and back.

Mr. Smith was a veteran of WWII and Korea, having served in the United States Navy. He retired from Champaign Asphalt Company in 1986 after 37 years with the company. He was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 841 and he was a member of Pennsylvania Ave. Baptist Church. Clyde enjoyed Illinois basketball and sports, reading, storytelling, travelling with his wife and flying his own plane.

Memorials may be made to Carle Hospice, Boystown, or the Disabled American Veterans.
