Clifford A. Tinsman,(87), of Urbana, IL, went to be with his Savior at 10:00 PM on August 7, 2012. His passing was a result of complications related to a stroke.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, August 11 at the Mattis Ave Free Methodist Church (1913 S. Mattis Ave, Champaign, IL.). Pastor Herbert Coates will officiate. Burial will be held at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Mayview, IL. Visitation will be held Friday, August 10 from 4 to 7 PM at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana, IL.
Mr. Tinsman was born May 16, 1925 in Coles County, IL, a son of James Alfred and Essie Mae Brown Tinsman. He married Ruth Carlen on March 12, 1950, in Cumberland County. She survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Kara (Larry) Roberson, Debbie (Denis) Black, Donna (Timothy) Moseley, and a son, Mike Tinsman all of Urbana. 11 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Sara, four sisters and two brothers.
Mr. Tinsman served under General Patton as a combat soldier with Company B of the 346th Regiment of the United States Army during World War II. He worked at Clifford and Jacobs Forging Company as a hammersmith. He contributed to the well-being of his co-workers by serving as a union steward, a member of contract negotiating teams, and as a member of the board of the C-J Credit Union. At the end of his career, he was a foreman, retiring in 1978 after 38 years of service.
Cliff cherished his family, and nothing pleased him more than large family gatherings. Throughout his entire life he enjoyed watching as well as participating in sports. He was an avid golfer and fisherman in his latter years. After retirement he and Ruth spent their winters in Lessburg, FL so that he could enjoy the outdoors. He was a handyman and was truly happy when he was busy helping others. He was a member of the Mattis Ave Free Methodist Church in Champaign, and the Urbana American Legion Post 71.
