Clem G. Kamphaus, 84 of Urbana, died at 12:15 a.m. Monday March 13, 2017 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 16 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Champaign with Visitation 1 hour prior to service time. Rev. Fr. Dave Sajdack and Deacon Ed Mohrbacher officiating. Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery, Urbana with Military Honors by American Legion Post 71 and the US AirForce Honors Team from Scott AirForce Base following the committal.
Clem was born August 5, 1932 at Paterson, NJ, the son of Clement and Catherine (McKiernan) Kamphaus II. He married Joan D. Odell on July 15, 1953 at Barksdale AFB in Shreveport, LA, she survives. Other survivors include his children; Clem Kamphais IV of St. Joseph, Robert Kamphaus (Deborah) of Indianapolis, IN, Mark Kamphaus (Sherry) of Villa Grove, Sandy Galbreath (Dave) of Tolono and son-in-law, Steve Duke of Villa Grove. Brothers; Edward Kamphaus of Cincinnati, OH, Richard Kamphaus of Ft. Wright, KY and a sister, Kathleen Canter of Bethel, OH. Fourteen grandchildren; Shonda Barto, Joseph Kamphaus, Mandy Kamphaus, Ashley Kamphaus, Robert Kamphaus Jr, Richard Kamphaus, Mary Kamphaus, Brandon Kamphaus, Shannon Kamphaus, Sharron Kamphaus, Casey Stabler, Sarah Stabler, Jennifer Galbreath, Jeremy Dyson and thirteen great grandchildren also survive him.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Kamphaus-Duke, 3 brothers and 1 sister.
Clem is a graduate of Purcell High School in Cincinnati, OH, a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and served in the US AirForce during the Korean War. He worked in industrial management for Comprecom and later for Magnavox in Urbana. He also worked in sales for Mt. Hope Cemetery and Mausoleum and also for East Lawn Cemetery in Urbana. Clem loved his grandchildren and his hobby was water color painting. He enjoyed working in his yard and was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan.
