Claribell M. Irvin, 97 of Urbana passed away at 2:20 p.m. on October 29, 2026, at Carle Foundation Hospital.

Claribell was born on June 11, 1929 on the family farm in rural St. Peter, Illinois. She was the daughter of Frank & Dorothy (McMillan) Mahon. Claribell worked at the Champaign County Nursing Home for 23 years in dietary.

She was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Champaign. She loved camping, flower gardening and her little dog Chester. She was an avid Chicago Cub fan.

Claribell is survived by her son Victor Gaines of Cloquet, MN and daughter Denise Chesnut of Ogden, IL, brother- Jack (Judy) Mahon; grandchildren- Michael Cline (AZ), Richard (Sandra) Cline (AZ), Victor Gaines (MN), Marcia Gaines (KS), Jesse (Lane) Dial (TN) and 10 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Dorothy Mahon: husbands Earl Gaines Jr. and Harold Irvin; sons- John & Frank Gaines; daughter- Gloria Cline; granddaughter- Donna Compton; brother- Glen & Bob Mahon ; sister- Virginia Lovett.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, November 9, 2026 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel. Pastor Brandon Tipsword will be officiating. Visitation from 11-12:00 at the funeral home.
