Obituary

Clarendon (Clare or Rick) George Richert, 92, Urbana, Illinois, died February 28, 2017.

He was a retired financial executive and farm investor. He graduated from Hinsdale High School, Hinsdale, Illinois. A VFW member, he served in World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps, Eighth Air Force, 384th Bombardment Group as a B-17 lead navigator and received the Distinguished Flying Cross, and post-war, he received a B.S. degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana.

Rick then worked for the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company from 1947 until 1985 ending his career as vice-president of the agricultural investment department. He continued to invest and work in various agricultural endeavors for the remainder of his life. In each community he lived in Rick and his wife were active in a local church and loved to play bridge. He served as a scoutmaster and in other positions with the Boy Scouts, and as a member of Toastmasters.

He lived in Elwood, Indiana; Wellesley, Massachusetts; and Noblesville, Indiana prior to his last residence in Urbana.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Peter Richert, his mother Clara Louise Wohlhuter Richert, brother Raymond Paul Richert, and sister Yvonne Bertha Richert Larson, and his first wife of 55 years, Margaret Ann Cummins Richert.

He is survived by his wife of three years Joyce Huber Richert, sister Joan Leah Richert Watson, three children: Paul, John, and Joan; two daughters-in-law; Catherine and Barbara; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff at Amber Glen Alzheimer's Special Care Center, Urbana, IL for their care in Rick's final months.
