Chrystal J. Slade, 95, former owner of the Race Inn Restaurant in Urbana, passed away Friday, December 18, 2009 at 10:15 p.m. in Provena Hospital, Champaign, IL.

She was born April 26, 1914 in Champaign, IL, the daughter of Edwin and Mary (Davis) Jackson.

Prior to her retirement, Chrystal and her former husband Leslie Slade ran the Race Inn Restaurant and catering service in Urbana, IL for many years. Chrystal was an avid seamstress and spent many hours at her sewing machine. She loved studying the Bible and participating in Bible study groups. Chrystal attended Stratford Park Bible Chapel, Champaign, IL and cherished helping in their kitchen with food preparation.

Chrystal is survived by sons James (Kay) Slade of Mahomet, IL, Richard (Sharon) Slade of Champaign, IL and Marvin (Barbara) Slade of Planfield, IL, and daughter Mary Slade of San Francisco, CA. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Jordan, of Ely, MN and Bonnie (Allen) Hollett of Gig Harbor, WA; sister-in-law Laura Jackson, Houston, TX and many nieces and nephews.

Chrystal was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Edwin Jackson Jr, sisters Glennadine Oliver and Mary Jane Fincham.

Services for Chrystal Slade will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, at Renner Wikoff Funeral Home, Urbana, IL with internment at the Eastlawn Burial Park, Urbana, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
