Charles Ransalaer Riggs, 91, of Urbana passed away peacefully Saturday, May 31, 2014 at home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 29 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana.
Mr. Riggs was born March 20, 1923 in Lawton, Michigan to parents Luther and Alice (Rector) Riggs. He married Frances Alice Garvin on February 28, 1948 in Michigan. She passed away in 2008.
Survivors include four children, Connie Brown (Jack), of Champaign, Randy Riggs (Phyllis), of Urbana, Debbie Hauersperger (Bob), of Urbana, Ross Riggs (Joan), of Urbana, two siblings, Dorriel Riggs (Louise), of Michigan, Patricia Witham, of Kansas, ten grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and one great great granchild.
Mr. Riggs proudly served in the United States Army during WWII, and was awarded a Purple Heart. He worked as a machinist most of his life and retired from Kraft. He was an active member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Urbana.
Charles was a man of many interests. He enjoyed woodworking, cars, nature, and spending time with his family. The Riggs family always looked forward to Friday night dinner at Charles' house.
