Charles F. Powers, 79, of Urbana passed away at 2:23 A.M. on Friday, April 1, 2016 at his home, surrounded by family.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at Renner-Wikoff Chapel in Urbana, followed by a graveside service at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Mayview, where Military rites will be performed. Rev. Richard McGuire will officiate.

Charlie was born on August 5, 1936 in Decatur, IL to parents Robert and Edith (Miller) Powers. On February 11, 1961 he married Suzanne Christensen of Urbana who preceded him in death along with his parents and his sister Glenna.

He is survived by his daughters, Lisa (Brad) Houge of Stilwell, KS and Angie (Pat Ege) Powers of Champaign. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sammi and Joel; and his sister, Cynthia Slade of Urbana.

Charlie was a graduate of Urbana High School, after high school he enlisted in the United States Army where he served with the 106th Calvary as a medical specialist. He retired from Sunbeam Bread after thirty-five years.

Charlie enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and best friend Wayne. He was a history and train enthusiast who enjoyed traveling scenic railways and taking road trips to national parks and historical landmarks.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents of The Villas of Hollybrook in Savoy, Carle Hospice and Reliable Home Care for providing love and support to him and his family during his final days.
