URBANA, IL- Charles "Chuck" A. McCartney, 70, of Urbana, passed away at 10:30 A.M., Monday (October 10, 2011) at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana, IL, surrounded by his loving family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.
Visitation will be Friday, October 14, 2011 from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana, IL. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the funeral home with Pastor Leah Robberts-Mosser officiating. Burial will be held at Eastlawn Cemetery, Urbana, IL.
Chuck was born November 13, 1940 in Urbana, IL. He was the son of Paul and Thelma McCartney. He married Carol J. Taylor on November 10, 2001. She survives. Also surviving are his children Cindy (Bill) Knerr of Mahomet, IL, Debbie (Bill) Routh of St. Joseph, IL, Shelly (Roger) Friese of Urbana, IL, two step-children, Brian (Becky) Duffield of Flatville, IL, and Colleen Narvez of Granite City, IL. He has nine grandchildren, Codi and Dustin Knerr, Carl and Travis Duffield, Ryan and Kyle Clevenger, Jessica Routh, Stephanie and Sean Schnepper, and two amazing great granddaughters, Danika and Katelyn. Also surviving is a brother, Robert (Ruth) McCartney of Urbana and a sister, Joan (Robert) Mathis of Urbana, and two sister-in-laws, Mary McCartney of Urbana, and Shirley McCartney of Inverness, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Don and Paul, and two sisters, Betty and Patty.
Chuck was a retired electrician with IBEW local #601 and a business owner. He was an avid bowler, and was an Assistant Secretary of the Champaign County Bowling Association. Chuck was very involved in many bowling events. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and was a Cardinal fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Chuck was a good and devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by his family and many friends.
