Obituary

Charles D. Gordon 69, of Urbana, died peacefully at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, June 13, 2010 at home. Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 18 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. Pastor Lutz Braunig will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home on Friday.

Mr. Gordon was born December 22, 1940 at Mt. Vernon, the son of Harold and Mildred Mitchell Gordon. He married Sandra Lewis in 1962 and she survives. He is also survived by daughters, Lisa L. Cafin (Chris) and children Kiersten, Danielle and Kyndal of Monticello, Kimberly K. Guffey (David) and children Kendra and Matthew of Bement. Sister, Sherrill Tittle of Urbana, mother-in-law, Erma A. Lewis of Urbana, brother-in-laws, John Maisch of the Lisle, Lindall Lewis (Jane) of Effingham, Phillip Lewis (Connie) of Bible Grove, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nephews, great nieces, great-great nephews, great-great nieces, cousins, friends and neighbors. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Charlotte Maisch, brother-in-law, Terrell Tittle, father-in-law, Lindall Lewis and sister-in-law, Pamela K. Lewis.

Mr. Gordon graduated from Urbana High School in 1959 and from the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Quantico, VA in 1977. He served in the Illinois National Guard for 6 years. He served on the Urbana Police Dept. for 30 years as Patrolman, Seargent, Investigator, Assistant Chief and retired in 1995. He was instrumental in establishing METCAD (911) and was a member of the FBI, Fraternal Order of Police, International Association of Chiefs of Police, Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, American Legion, National Rifle Association, Masonic Lodge and member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Urbana. He enjoyed fishing, wood working, N-guage trains, landscaping, playing with his grandchildren and visiting with family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or the donor's choice.
