Charles R. Carlton Jr. 83 of Urbana died at 6:03 p.m. Friday, September 2, 2011 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Private Graveside Services will be held at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign; with military rites conducted by American legion Post 71 of Urbana. Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Carlton was born on February 23, 1928 in East St. Louis, the son of Charles R. and Jennie Francis O'Brien Carlton Sr.

He was married to Patricia Ann Case who died on June 19, 2010, Patricia Arlene Apke on June 25, 1955, she died on January 6, 1982, Barbara Cloud on February 7, 2002 in Urbana, she survives.

Also surviving are two sons; William D. Carlton of Beavercreek, Ohio and Chip Carlton of Tuscola, one step-daughter; Jenifer L. Harrison of Hope, one brother; James Carlton of Colorado, one sister; Faye Bell of California, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Mr. Carlton was a U.S. Army and Air Force veteran of WW II and the Korean Conflict.

He retired as the Manager for VFW Post 630, Urbana.

Mr. Carlton was a life member of VFW Post 630, Urbana, American Legion Post 71 of Urbana, life member of the NRA, St. Joseph Sportsman Club.

He was an Illini, St. Louis Cardinals and Rams fan.
