Catherine May Thuney 86 of Urbana passed away at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

She was born in Urbana, IL on June 25, 1939, the daughter of Stanley Russell & Mary Catherine (Powell)Slack. She married Dale Thuney on October 17, 1959, in Urbana.

Catherine is survived by two daughters; Janet (Mark) Thuney Liberman of Roswell, Georgia, and Susan Thuney of Champaign, one son; Steve Thuney of Urbana and one granddaughter; Katie Thuney.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dale and brother, Daniel Slack.

She was an office manager for a financial planning agency for many years.

Catherine was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Urbana, the United Commercial Travelers for 53 years, Carle Auxiliary and the United Methodist Women's Group.

She enjoyed reading and mentoring children. Catherine also enjoyed spending time with her children and granddaughter.
