Carroll "Ted" Franklin Jr., 87, of Champaign, passed away Friday, September 4th, 2015 at Carle Foundation Hospital only two weeks after being diagnosed with cancer. A visitation will be held Tuesday, September 8th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, September 9th at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Wayne Clevenger officiating. Burial will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Sidney. The Urbana American Legion Post #71 will perform military rites.
Ted was born August 24, 1928 in Urbana, Illinois to parents Elsie Adelaide (Randel) and Carroll Theodore Franklin, Sr. They preceded him death. On November 13, 1948, Ted married Frances Beightler. She preceded him in death December 29, 1981. He married Betty Henderson July 25, 1987; she survives.
Also surviving are children: Marie Clark, of Fisher, Richard Franklin (Melody), of Urbana, Carol Traxler (David), of Philo, stepchildren: Brenda Ennen (Tom), of Champaign, Marla Castor (Mark), of Savoy, sisters: Phyllis Dalton, of Champaign, Nedra Darnall, of Danville, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Three sisters, one brother and his stepson, Ronald Goode, preceded Ted in death.
Ted was hard-working man who continued to work well past his official retirement. He was a truck driver for nearly his entire life, and worked at many companies, including Eisner Jewel, Schneider, Pierce, Woodworth, and Honda.
Ted was an avid coin collector and a huge fan of Willie Nelson. He enjoyed square dancing, bowling, camping and football. He delighted in making the pretty lady he had tattooed on his right bicep "dance" by flexing his muscle. He loved his family deeply and will be dearly missed.
