Carl Paul Pittman 81 of Urbana died at 2:13 a.m. Monday, March 07, 2011 at the Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana the Rev. Mike Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Philo. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Pittman was born on December 1, 1929 in Champaign, the son of George and Hattie Watkins Pittman, he married Dorothy Edwards on September 17, 1949 in Clay County, Kentucky, she survives.

Also surviving are one daughter; Janet (Richard) Langendorf of Urbana, three sons; Steven (Sharron) Pittman of Moberly, Missouri, Timothy (Marilyn) Pittman and Michael (Diane) Pittman both of Urbana, one brother Willis Pittman of Peoria, one sister; Evelyn Timmons of Florida, ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandson Ryan.

He was a carpenter for about 41 years for Carpenter's Local Union 44, Champaign retiring in 1991.

Mr. Pittman was a member of the Urbana Elks, Men's Auxiliary of VFW post 630 and the Illinois Sheriffs Association.

He enjoyed life in many ways, golfing, fishing, gardening and coaching little league for several years.

Mr. Pittman was invited for a tour of Air Force One. He also helped with the work on the Betatron with the Department of Physics at the U of I. He donated his photographs to the Physics section at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.
