C. Rex Mahannah, 86, of Florence, KY formerly of Urbana, died at 4:00 p.m. Friday February 16, 2018 at the Villa Springs of Erlanger, KY. Funeral services will at 11:00 a.m. Saturday February 24 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory with visitation one hour prior to service time. Rev. Phillip McGarvey will officiate. Military Honors will be accorded by Urbana American Legion Post 71.
Rex was born April 6, 1931 in Champaign, the son of Charles R. and Mabel A. (Newcomb) Mahannah. He married Ruth E. Minyard on September 5, 1956 in Urbana and she preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Richard D. Mahannah. He is survived by a daughter, Kathy Mahannah (Kevin Kreft) of Florence, KY, a son, Timothy Rex Mahannah (Jana) of Arcola, brother, Ray Mahannah of Champaign, a sister, Martha Guyon of Urbana, grandchildren, Chase A Knibbe, Preston C. Knibbe, Molly S. Mahannah and Madison Higgins and a great granddaughter, Emma Wienke.
Rex graduated from Philo High School. He was a member of Garden Hills Baptist Church, Champaign. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War as Hospitalman Second Class. Following his enlistment he served in the Navy Reserves for 20 years. He was also a greenhouse worker at the Botanical Department at the University of Illinois.
