Billy Dale Hixson, 93, of Urbana passed peacefully on January 23, 2023 at his residence.
He was born August 14, 1929, in Champaign, the son of Harry & Opal (Barnhart) Hixson. He married Carol Bergner on September 19, 1964.
Bill graduated from Bement High School in 1947. After graduation he entered the Air Force and was stationed at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma. Bill was a member of IBEW Local 601 since 1953 and worked as an electrician at the University of Illinois for 28 years. He is survived by his wife, Carol; sons David (Monica), Dale (Brenda), and Dean (April); grandchildren Catherine, Blake Waller, Tyler, Erich, Ty Waller, Nora, and Luke; and sister Pam March. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Ronald Dean, and sister Bonita.
Those close to him saw it clearly: he put his family first; he went above and beyond for friends and neighbors in need; he never took the best for himself. He was grateful for life, beating cancer three times, and always strove to be useful. Bill loved his wife and children, his country, peaceful lakes, good friends, good laughs, and good motorcycle rides. He left this world knowing that he was loved beyond measure by those he treasured most. No services are planned. As in life, he never wanted to be a spectacle. But God saw it all. Phil. 2:3
