Billy Paul "Jake" Hallowell, 75 of Urbana, died at 5:00 a.m. Sunday, October 2, 2011 at his home.

Memorial services will be at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, October 6 at the IBEW Hall, 3301 N. Boardwalk Dr., Champaign. Mike Dilley will officiate. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 4:00 to 6:00.

Billy was born August 11, 1936 in Douglas County, the son of Paul Franklin and Daisy (Patrick) Hallowell. He married Sylvia Mangian Hansen on November 27, 1994 in Champaign. He is loved and will be dearly missed by his wife, Sylvia; children, Cheri Garrett of Champaign, Brian Hallowell (Terri) of St. Joseph, Lori Hallowell of Bondville, step son, Rodney Hansen of Urbana; seventeen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; great aunt, Pauline Milsap of Altoona, Wisconsin and many close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Buddy Hallowell.

Billy is a graduate of Unity High School and served in the US Navy in the 1950's. He was an electrician with IBEW Local 601. He was a member of Urbana VFW Post 630, Urbana American Legion Post 71, Western Star Masonic Lodge No. 240, the Fairmount Club and the Champaign Athletic Club. He was a black belt in Taekwondo, enjoyed riding motorcycles and was an avid hunter, NASCAR fan and sports enthusiast including the Illini and Chicago Bears.
