William Dale Cain, 70, of Urbana died at 1:40 p.m. Friday, February 26, 2010 with his wife and two daughters by his side at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
A Celebration of Life Reception will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana.
Mr. Cain was born on March 3, 1939 in Champaign, the son of Noble Henry and Rose Ellen (Wooters) Cain. He married Judith Ann Bray on August 7, 1960 at First United Methodist Church in Urbana and they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this summer. He is survived by his wife, Judy of Urbana; daughters, Julie A. Cain of Fayetteville, Ark. and Diane Sue Cain of Urbana; and a brother, Robert Cain of Urbana. He is preceded in death by a sister, Shirley E. Cox.
Mr. Cain, along with his wife was owner and operator of the Blossom Basket Florist in Urbana which they ran for more than 40 years. He had many interests which included; Vice President of the Urbana Chamber of Commerce, President of the Urbana Golf and Country Club, member of the University of Illinois Foundation, University of Arkansas Foundation, Urbana Masonic Lodge No.157 AF&AM, Girl Scouts-USA Local Council, honorary member of Delta Sigma Omicron, U of I Rehabilitation Education Center and was also a former member of the Illini Statesmen Barbershop Chorus.
After retirement, he assisted his daughter, Diane, in her business, "The Cousins Dog Biscuit Co.," in Urbana. He was recognized by Provena Covenant Hospital for his work with their hospice program through his floral business. He also worked as shop manager at Green Meadows Girl Scout Council, Urbana. He was an avid Illini fan and enjoyed his "grand dogs." The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Pat Saravanan, Dr. Ismail Bobat, Provena Covenant CCU, 6th floor and hospice staff.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Champaign County Humane Society or Provena Covenant Hospice Program.
