Betty Marie Stites, 78, of Bondville, passed away at 12:09 a.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Gibson Area Hospital Long Term Care Annex. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Sunday February 1, 2015 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 2nd at the funeral home. Minister Steve Ingram will officiate. Burial will be held at Dodge Grove Cemetery, Mattoon.
Mrs. Stites was born April 11, 1936 in Charleston, Illinois to parents Aaron "Homer" and Marie "Lucille" (Cafin) Dillman. She married Jerry Stites September 5, 1954 in Champaign, Illinois; he survives. Also surviving are sisters, Carolyn Harner, of Savoy, Illinois, Hazel Dillman, of Port Ritchey, Florida, 20 nieces and nephews, and her best dog, Buddy. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Gene, Duane, and Raymond Dillman.
After attending high school, Betty worked as a waitress at Walgreen's, then at Robeson's Department Store. She later retired from the University of Illinois after working as an administrative assistant for more than 15 years.
Mrs. Stites was an avid fan of country music, and attended the Bement Country Opry every Friday, where she always occupied her seat in the second row, third seat over. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping and boating with her husband. Betty was an excellent baker and was famous for her delicious red velvet cakes.
