Obituary

CHAMPAIGN, IL- Betty Pence Jarvis Sherrick, age 91, passed away Monday, November 23, 2009 at Illini Heritage Rehab and Care Facility in Champaign. She was born in Minot, North Dakota on July 30, 1918, the daughter of Ralph and Goldie Pence. After moving with her family to Michigan following the Great Depression, she went to high school in Ann Arbor and then graduated from the University of Michigan in 1940 with a degree in Speech and Hearing Science. She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. In 1940, she married Harland N. Jarvis in Ann Arbor. After WWII, her husband opened a law practice in Lansing, Michigan. They had one daughter, Ricka Jarvis Shorish (Mobin) now living in Urbana, Illinois. After a long illness and moving to Florida, Mr. Jarvis passed away in 1972. Betty remarried Lincoln Sherrick in Santa Barbara, California in 1975. He passed away in 2007 in Champaign, IL. Betty was a legal secretary for many years. She loved photography, to sew, to needlepoint, but most of all she loved to travel, having literally been around the world. She was predeceased by her parents, spouses, and a sister, Ruth Mills of California. She leaves her daughter, Ricka, three grandchildren, a great grandson and a nephew. She had a great sense of humor and will be missed by all. The family would like to thank all the staff at Illini Heritage for their loving care given to her. There will be no services. Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana, is handling the arrangements.
