Obituary

Betty Lou Lynn, 87, of Urbana, formerly of Gurnee, passed away at 12:35 A.M. on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Champaign County Nursing Home.

Betty was born on December 7, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to parents Herman and Rose (Nater) Bieri. Both preceded her in death. She married Jack Lynn Jr. in 1948 in Chicago, IL. Jack passed away in 1972. Also preceding her in death was her sister, Juanita McCullough; brother, Robert Bieri; step mom, Margaret Bieri; son, Richard Lynn; and granddaughter, Megan.

Betty is survived by her children: Patrick (Sandy) Lynn of Lake Zurich, Illinois, James (Jane) Lynn of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Diane (Dan Zolfo) Lynn of Urbana, Illinois, Kathleen (Tim) Kraker of New Berlin, Wisconsin, Nancy (Brian) Jansen of Ingleside, Illinois, Peggy (Corey Goldthorpe) Lynn of Champaign, Illinois and Christine (Robert) Barney of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren: Derek, Kelly, Ronda, Jason, Nate, Bryan, Richard, A.J., Connie, Jack, Zoe, Mike, Katie, Kristen, Tim, Kati, Jessica, Jenny, and Aidan; 13 great grandchildren: Grace, Sarah, Joshua, Zachariah, Liz, Evan, Mercedes, Eli, Caitlyn, Chloe, Iggy, Michael, and Kalista; and 2 great-great grandchildren: Jordan and Dominic.

Betty, raised in Chicago, graduated from Waller High School in Lincoln Park. She received a nursing degree in May, 1949 from West Suburban Hospital School of Nursing in Oak Park, IL and a BA in Social Sciences in May, 1975 from Barat College in Lake Forest, IL. Betty worked as an RN for Victory Memorial Hospital and as a school nurse for the Waukegan school district.

Betty was a devoted member of St. Dismas Catholic Church in Waukegan, Illinois, where she was an active participant in the Women's club. She was a perennial instructor for the SPRED catechism program and volunteered in numerous fund raising activities.

She generously donated her time at St. Therese, Victory Memorial Hospitals and ElderCARE. She was a member of Women of the Moose, Catholic Charities and the Catholic Nurses Association.

Betty was a strong and resilient individual, devoted to her beloved children. She loved reading, sewing, knitting, baking, travel, and playing games. Her greatest treasure in life was children, as shown by the love and devotion toward her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A visitation for Betty will be held on Saturday, February 14th, from 9-10 a.m., with a memorial mass following at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dismas Church, 2600 Sunset Ave., Waukegan, IL. A luncheon will be held at the church immediately after the mass. Interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, IL.
