Obituary

Betty Jane Davey, 93, of Savoy, passed away peacefully at 10:12 p.m., Friday, September 2, 2016. The family will have a small, private graveside service at a later date. Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory will perform the cremation.

Mrs. Davey was born December 13, 1922 in Belleville, Illinois to parents Dorothy (Bevirt) and Roy Williamson. She married her first husband, William E. Gleason Sr., in 1943. After 43 years of marriage, William passed away. Betty married John N. Davey in 1987. John passed away in 2003. Surviving Betty are two children, William Gleason (Leslie), of Champaign, Illinois, and Pamela Johnson (Edward), of Houston, Texas. Five grandchildren also survive her: Dr. Richard Knabb (Rhonda), Keith Knabb (Jennifer), Kathleen Burwell (Andrew), Kelly Gleason, and Kristine Gleason. Betty was fortunate enough to also know her six great-grandchildren. Her parents preceded her in death.

After high school, Betty attended Illinois College. She moved to Chicago with her first husband, where she graduated with a degree from the University of Chicago. She then began her long career as an elementary school teacher. She taught language arts in Glendale Heights, Illinois for more than 20 years.

Betty endeared herself to everyone she knew. She was an avid reader of many genres. She was a creative person who enjoyed knitting and cross-stitching. She had a vivacious personality and will be dearly missed.
