Bernard "Bernie"Daniel Taylor, 86, of Urbana passed away at 12:54 a.m. on Friday, October 19, 2018 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel in Urbana. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Champaign with a visitation held one hour prior to the funeral from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Pastor Tom Hillertz will officiate. Burial will take place at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Mayview.
Bernie was born in Sidney, IL on October 24, 1931 to parents Curtis H. and Ada M. (Ayers) Taylor. They preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his siblings; Carl, Roy, Paul and Shirley Roper.
On October 14, 1955 Bernard married Shirley Woller in Rantoul, she survives. Also surviving are their children; Diana Johnstone (Jeff) of Urbana and Fred Taylor (Cyndi) of Champaign, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. His brother David Taylor (Ruth) of Urbana and his sister Martha Allen of Urbana also survive him.
On July 21, 1950 Bernard joined the United States Navy. After being honorably discharged he returned to the area and began his career at the University of Illinois as a carpenter, retiring after thirty-five years.
Bernie is a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Champaign, the American Legion #71, the Carpenter's Union and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3075.
Bernie liked to go dancing at the Eagles Lodge, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening and playing cards with his sister- in- law Jeannie. Bernie loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially with his grandchildren and great grand-children.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, American Heart Association or to the Developmental Service Center, 1304 W Bradley Av., Champaign IL 61821.
