CHAMPAIGN - Bennett Rosen, 91, of Champaign, formerly of Danville, passed on at 9:30 p.m. Friday (April 23, 2010) at Heartland Health Care Center, Champaign. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel in Urbana. Mr. Rosen was born August 27, 1918, in Chicago, a son of Della and Michael Rosen. He grew up in Bloomington. After graduating from University of Chicago, Mr. Rosen entered the beauty business. He owned and operated Danville Beauty School from 1948-1985 and in the 1970's until 1985 also owned Beau Monde Beauty School in Champaign. Mr. Rosen also spent many years as a Christian Science practitioner supporting others in their spiritual growth. Mr. Rosen's first wife, Isabel, was a music educator. She passed on in 1969. His second wife, Betsy, was a librarian. She passed on in 1998. Mr. Rosen is survived by five children and their families: Jeanne Fields and Michael Wenninger of Douglas City, CA; Ellen and Douglas Elrick of Champaign; Michael and Janet Rosen of Ridgewood, NJ, Barry Rosen of St. Louis, MO, and Mark and Sally Rosen of White Lake, MI. Mr. Rosen has 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. The whole family cherishes memories of summers by Lake Michigan with their dad and grandfather. He enjoyed discussing ideas, current events and helping others. He was an avid tennis fan who made sure his children got a right start by sawing off wood handled rackets to the correct size. He loved music, especially classical, jazz, and piano. Memorials may be made to First Church of Christ, Scientist, Urbana, or The Prairie Club of Chicago, IL.
