Barbara L.
Westwater
Nov 17, 1943 — Jul 19, 2021
Barbara Lois Westwater, of Urbana, passed from this life 5:32 AM on July19, 2021, at Clark-Lindsey Village. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1803 N Coler Ave, Urbana, Illinois 61801. Her nephew, Pastor Jonathan Moore will officiate. She was born November 17, 1943, in Wilmington, Delaware, the first of four children born to James and Elizabeth Westwater. In 1948, her family moved to Urbana, Illinois, and she spent the remainder of her life in the Champaign-Urbana community. Throughout her childhood, she was hospitalized for several major illnesses. Because of her many health problems, she didn't have a typical childhood and progress in school was difficult. She graduated from Urbana High School in June, 1962. In adulthood, she continued to deal with many health problems. She was cared for by her devoted parents until their advanced age made it no longer possible to do so. She moved to Manor Care in August of 2003, where she enjoyed the social life and made many friends. In December, 2005, she moved to Meadowbrook Health Center and enjoyed the new community she joined there. She participated in the many and varied activities provided and became involved in resident council, dining committee, and other decision-making capacities. Her pleasant, grateful spirit made her well-loved. Although she never had the opportunity to have children of her own, she took great interest in watching her nieces and nephews grow up, and she thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings. In spite of her physical limitations, she lived a full life and was a very content and grateful person. Her personal relationship with Jesus Christ was a strength and comfort to her, and she loved to attend church services and Bible studies whenever possible. She was a life-long learner, being especially interested in the subject of history. She also liked to challenge her mind by working word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and doing hand crafts. Barbara loved to explore her world through travel. She accompanied her family on trips all over the continental United States and was also able to travel to the Caribbean Islands and the Hawaiian Islands. She was preceded in death by both parents. She is survived by a brother, David Westwater, and two sisters, Judith White and Beverly Moore; also survived by 7 nieces and nephews and their children. She will also be missed by the loving staff at Meadowbrook Health Center who have shared each day with her for the past 15 years.
