Barbara D. Kaufman, 85, of Urbana passed away Saturday (Jan. 17, 2015) at Carle Hospital in Urbana, Ill. She was born Oct. 27, 1929, in Hammond, Ind., a daughter of C.V. and Eleanora (Kuss) Cook. She married Albert Kaufman Jr. in 1953. He passed away in 1981. Survivors include a son, Matt, of Urbana; a daughter, Jennie, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a sister, Diana Cook of Madison, Wis.; a niece, a nephew and several cousins. Barbara graduated from Hanover College in 1951. She worked at the University of Chicago Press, where she met Al, in the 1950s, and at the University of Illinois for more than 30 years, most of them as a secretary at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, retiring at age 80.
