Obituary

Anthony V. "Tony" Sheehan, 78, of St. Joseph passed away at 6:58 p.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his family. A visitation will be held Sunday, August 19th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 708 W. Main St., Urbana. A Rosary prayer will be said at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at the church Monday, August 20th at 10:00 a.m., with Fr. Joseph Hogan officiating. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Mattoon, with the Mattoon American Legion performing military rites.

Mr. Sheehan was born November 5, 1933 in Trowbridge, Illinois to parents Clem and Mary (Hunk) Sheehan. After graduating from Neoga High School, Tony joined the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He married Patricia Kremer April 11, 1959; she survives.

Also surviving are two sons; Mark Sheehan (Moni), of Mattoon, Timothy Sheehan (Angela), of Teutopolis, two daughters; Mary Henk, of Scottsdale, Arizona, Kathy Wahl (Kurt), of Cave Creek, Arizona, seven grandchildren; Anthony Vincent Sheehan II, Sarah Wahl, Marcus Sheehan, Kurtis Wahl, Ross Sheehan, Chris Henk, Toni Henk, four brothers; John Sheehan, of Teutopolis, Paul Sheehan, of Neoga, Sam Sheehan, of Shumway, Jim Sheehan, of Danville, sister-in-law Louise Sheehan, of Teutopolis, and many nieces and nephews. Tony was preceded in death by his parents Clem and Mary Sheehan, brother; Bill Sheehan, mother and father in-law; Herman and Della Kremer, brother-in-law; Harold Kremer, and sisters-in-law; Donna Buehler, Lucille Sheehan, and Barb Sheehan.

Mr. Sheehan began his career working at Sherwin-William as a branch manager, where he worked for 19 years. He became a Custom Painter and Wood Finisher, and was self-employed for 30 years. He also worked with Pat at her former business, Draperies and Interiors By Design.

Tony was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Society of St. Vincent DePaul, in which he volunteered for their food bank for over 13 years.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Sheehan's honor to Camp New Hope at Lake Mattoon, the Society of St. Vincent DePaul, or Carle Hospice Foundation.
