Obituary

Anne Rose Britsky, 92 of Urbana passed away at 8:00 a.m., Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Meadowbrook Health Center in Urbana.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Urbana. Rev. Father Joseph Hogan will officiate. Burial will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Champaign. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Monday, December 26, 2016 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel in Urbana.

Anne was born on January 10, 1924 in Jerome PA to parents Michael and Alice (Berzonski) Koss. They preceded her in death. On August 3, 1946 she married Nicholas Britsky at Fort Belvoir outside Washington D.C., he passed away on June 7, 2005. Also preceding her in death was their son, Nick.

She is survived by her children; Ellen Hickey (husband David) of San Diego, CA, Anthony Britsky (wife Eileen) of Troy, MI, Marina Applegate of Portland OR and Steve Britsky of Tampa, FL. Seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive her.

Anne grew up in Jerome, PA living with 9 brothers and sisters in a two bedroom house. While in Jerome, Anne graduated from high school then moved to Washington D.C. at the beginning of WW2. While in Washington D.C., Anne worked in the Office of War Information and later assisted with the opening season of the UNRRA later to be called the United Nations. Nick and Anna moved to Champaign-Urbana around 1947, then built their first and only house in Urbana, remaining there throughout their lifetime.

Awarded two Fulbright Scholarships, Anne, Nick and family lived in Italy then later Portugal. She loved traveling with Nick and together they explored the world. Anne was an outstanding chef and baker having learned many of her skills during the Depression and new food experiences from her world travels.

Anne was an active member of St. Patrick's Church in Urbana and was beloved by everyone who knew her.

Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church or to the Champaign County Humane Society.
