Alvin Theodore Christians, 91 of Urbana passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at home.
He was born June 16, 1922 to Christian H. and Catherine E. Raup Christians in Somers Township.
Alvin attended Locust Grove Grade School and Urbana High School.
Alvin farmed his entire life. He and his brothers were pioneers in farming techniques, methods and technology.
Alvin was a life time member of Peace Lutheran Church, Thomasboro where he served on numerous boards and committees. He was on the Somers Township Drainage Commission Board. Alvin was a life time member of the Champaign County Farm Bureau and was a supporter of Parkland College.
Alvin enjoyed life, farming, storytelling and reminiscing with family and friends. He was an avid football, basketball & Cubs fan. He was cherished by all. Alvin was charitable, generous, kind and leaves a legacy to follow in honesty, loyalty and seeing the best in everyone.
Alvin is survived by four Nieces; Rita L. Frerichs, Ruth Christians, Linda M. Pontillo and Lois J. Calcagno and many great Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers; Harm, Henry, Rudolph and Bill and two sisters; Rena and Alma.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 14, 2013 at Beckman Cemetery, Thomasboro.
Memorial contributions may be made to Peace Lutheran Church, Thomasboro.
The family expresses their deepest gratitude to Carle Hospice, Carle Medical Supply and Alpha Care for helping to fulfill Alvin's wishes to be at home for his final days. They would also like to thank Carle Hospital and Alvin's many doctor's and caring nurses. A special thank you and love to the many neighbors and friends that took time to visit with Alvin and for the encouragement, nourishment and support they provided throughout Alvin's illness and final days.
