Florence Alpharetta Preston, 89 of Urbana, died at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday January 20, 2016 at the Champaign County Nursing Home. She was staying there for Rehabilitation so she could return to Autumn Fields Assisted Living Facility at Savoy.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 25 at Grace United Methodist Church, 2004 S. Philo Rd. Urbana with visitation one hour prior to service time. Rev. J. Michael Smith will officiate. Burial will be at Locust Grove Cemetery, Philo.

Alpharetta was born in Philo and moved to Urbana at the age of six. Her parents were Fred and Carrie (Ems) Dilley. She married Charles G. Preston on March 5, 1946 and preceded her in death on December 27, 2009. She is also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Erwin Dilley.

Survivors include two sons, Troy Preston (Mary) of Homer and Tony Preston (Jeanne) of Orland Park, six grandchildren, Christian Preston (Christine) of Decatur, Heather Webb of Catlin, Charles Preston of Pacifica, CA., Victoria Preston of Brooklyn, NY, Sean Preston of Philadelphia, PA, Olivia Preston of Orland Park; and five great grandchildren, Stephanie Preston, Anne Preston, Heath Preston, Evan Webb, Preston Webb and a sister, Gladys Taylor of Urbana.

Alpharetta was a 1944 graduate of Urbana High School. During WWII she worked at Time Incorporated as a trainer. She later worked with her husband in his calligraphy business for thirty five years. She was one of the oldest living members of Grace United Methodist Church.
