Alice Jo "Josie" Rahn of Savoy, 85, died at 1:25 PM on Sunday, April 26, 2009, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be at the Columbarium at the First Presbyterian Church of Champaign. Renner-Wikoff Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Josie was born February 13, 1924, in Fredericktown, Missouri, a daughter of Lloyd and Aileen Leeper Grisham. She married Stanley W. Rahn on August 23, 1947, in Champaign. He preceded her in death on November 15, 2005. She is survived by a son, Christopher L. Rahn (Joyce) of Danville and a daughter, Pamela O. Knox (Phil) of Champaign. Also surviving are grandchildren Kathryn Rahn, Chicago, Kristen Rahn, Hershey PA, Sarah Rahn, Danville, Kelly Knox and Kyle Knox, Champaign, and a brother, Lin Grisham, Danville. She attended Southeast Missouri State, Cape Girardeau, and the Hickey School for Secretaries, St. Louis. She served as the secretary to the President of the St. Louis Chamber of Commerce before coming to Urbana-Champaign to complete her education. She received her BS from the University of Illinois in 1947 and her Masters in Education in 1972. She began a twenty-five year teaching career in the Urbana Schools in 1964. She was a Spanish teacher at Urbana Junior High and, later, at Urbana High School. She was frequently and fondly greeted by former students throughout the community. In 1992 she became the first volunteer mentor at the U of I Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, when Coach Lou Tepper asked her to work with freshman defensive end, Simeon Rice. She so enjoyed the experience that she continued mentoring football and basketball student-athletes through 2008. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Champaign where she was an Elder, active in the Presbyterian Women, and taught Sunday school and Confirmation Classes for many years. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Champaign for the Piano Fund, 302 W.
