Obituary

Alice L. Lain 89 of Urbana died on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the Palliative Care Unit at the Veterans Affairs Illiana Healthcare System, Danville.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2013 at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana; Rev. Lyndall Propst will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 71, Urbana.

Alice was born on January 16, 1923 in River Rouge, Michigan, the son of Andrew and Minerva Folks Watson, she married Lloyd Lain on October 19, 1946 at the Presbyterian Church in Danville, he survives.

Also surviving are two daughters; Joyce Walden of Champaign, Gladys Kelley of Spring Hill, Tennessee, two sons; Stephen Lain of Urbana, Roger Lain of Menifee, California, eleven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Andrew Watson and Minerva Folks Watson Siskoff, one sister; Gladys Lorenz, one brother; Willard Folks and her step-father; Milan Siskoff.

Alice attended grade school in Urbana graduating from Urbana High School in 1941.

During WW II Alice served in the Waves U.S. Navy June 1, 1944 to March 8, 1946. Naval Aviation AETM 3/C installing radios and radar on the planes.

She retired in 1983 from the Urbana School system as the Assistant to the Superintendent.

Alice loved her husband and spending time with her family. She loved to travel everywhere in the world except Africa. One of her favorite pastimes was to go looking for deer.

She served with the Girl Scouts for eight years, was President for one year of the Urbana High School Wrestling Club and served in the PTA for the grade school and high school. She also loved to play bridge.

Alice was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 630 Auxiliary Urbana, GFWC Illinois Federation of Women's Club. She also served the Danville VA taking veteran's to church and back from the 70's to 2009.

Alice's transition from this life to the next was a peaceful experience, thanks to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit of the VA Hospital in Danville. The family sends special thank you to each of those caring individuals.
