Alan R. Weidert 77 of Urbana died at 3:30 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014 at the Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014 at the Renner-Wikoff Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana; Rev. David Ashby will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Mayview. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Weidert was born on May 11, 1937 in Watseka, the son of Roy F. and Florence Edwards Weidert. He married Kay A. Evans on May 17, 1958 in Watseka, she survives, and they raised their family in the Scottswood neighborhood of Urbana. Through the years, Alan worked at Burnham City Hospital, Pyramid Paper Company, and Champaign-Urbana MTD. His Christian faith was important to him; he participated in Emmaus Walks and sang in his church choir. Alan loved family get-togethers, country drives, playing games with friends, and people watching. He will be remembered for his listening ear and his joyful, infectious laugh.

Surviving Alan is his loving wife of 56 years, Kay A. Weidert. He will be greatly missed by his son, Clinton (Lori) Weidert of Urbana and daughter, Karla (Wayne) VanEgmond of Greensboro, NC. Alan leaves four grandchildren and one step-great-grandson, of which he was always very proud: Jennifer (Bill) Carr, Craig Weidert, Mary VanEgmond, Amy VanEgmond, and Will Carr. His brother, John F. (Judy) Weidert of Chowchilla, CA, survives, as well as a host of nephews, cousins, and close friends.
