Obituary

Alexander "Al" Bohlen, 89 of Champaign, died at 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 8 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 509 S. Mattis Ave., Champaign. Pastor Mark Elliot will officiate. Burial at Grandview Memorial Gardens where military rites will be accorded by Champaign VFW Post 5520. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana and one hour prior to service time at the church on Monday.

Mr. Bohlen was born March 20, 1920 in Worthington, Minn., the son of Sam and Minnie (Lessman) Bohlen. He married Dorothy Woodworth on June 22, 1949 in Anna, Ill. and she preceded him in death on July 11, 2005. He is also preceded in death by his parents and a son, David Charles "Chuck" Bohlen. Survivors include sons; Alex Bohlen (Sue) of Champaign, Elton Bohlen (Lea) of Ogden, Tom Bohlen (Pam) of Mahomet, Eric Bohlen of Knoxville, Tenn., sister; Mae Geisler of Blue Springs, MO, fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Mr. Bohlen was a plumber with Local 149 and retired from the University of Illinois. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Champaign, VFW Post 630 and served in the Army during WWII. He loved helping people and had a memorable sense of humor. Memorial contributions may be made to Provena Covenant Hospice or St. John's Lutheran School Library.
