Marcel Franciscono, beloved husband of Renate Baron Franciscono and father of Michael Franciscono, died in his sleep on Monday, February 25, 2019, at his home in Urbana, without pain or anxiety.
He was born in 1931 in New Rochelle, New York. After completing a B.A. at Queens College in New York City and a Ph.D at the Institute of Fine Arts of New York University, he taught the history of art at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 1965 until his retirement in 1996. Professor Franciscono was admired for his insights into twentieth-century painting and for his integrity as a scholar and teacher.
A daughter, Nadia Franciscono preceded him in death in 2017. In addition to his wife and son, he leaves three grandchildren; Mandela, son of Nadia and her partner Daniel Factor, of Acton, Massachusetts and Gavin and Samantha, children of Michael and his wife, Kimberly Davis of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
In accordance with his wishes there will be no service or visitation.
