Fred Hite

William Frederick “Fred” Hite, 78, of Urbana (formerly of Philo), passed away at 9:55 p.m., August 7, 2018 at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center in Urbana, with his wife and children by his side. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 11th at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana.  Pastor Robert Adams will officiate.  Burial will be held at Locust Grove Cemetery in Philo.

Fred was born September 4, 1939 in Mattoon, Illinois to parents Everett and Edna (Louthan) Hite; they preceded him death. He married Myrna Campbell on May 29, 1959; she survives.  Also surviving are four children: Michelle Hart (John), of Tolono, Cindy Paeth (Gene), of Sadorus, Gene Hite, of Grafton, and Raymond Hite (Tracy), of Metamora, Indiana. Thirteen grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren also survive.  Fred was preceded in death by one daughter, Edith Hite, and one great-granddaughter, Jordyn Sears.

Fred honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a trucker and farmer for many years, and later retired from Kraft after working there for more than 30 years.  He was also the owner and operator of Fred’s Mowing Service for 33 years. 

Fred was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs as well as National Hot Rod Association driver, John Force. He will be missed by all who knew him.
