Edward “Ed” Eveland, 85 of Oakwood made his last jump at 5:26 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2019 Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana, IL. Burial will be held at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign. There will be a visitation from 5-7 PM on Wednesday May 1, 2019, at the funeral home.
He was born on September 9, 1933 to Herb and Lucille Eveland. Ed married the love of his life, Margaret “Dot” McHenry on November 21, 1953. She passed away June 30, 2017. He will be dearly missed by his children, Mark (Kathy), Rory (Kim), Sherry(Jeff) Lovenguth, Penny(Rod) Goodling, Tracy(Rod) Blackburn, 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Ed also leaves brothers Keith (Diane) Eveland, Herb (Diane) Eveland and sister LuAnn Cunnington. Brother Pete preceded him in death.
Ed graduated from Champaign High School and enlisted in the US Army. As a MSGT, he was selected for the 8th Army Honor Guard in Korea. He applied for OCS and was accepted and commissioned as a 2nd Lt. He served two tours in Vietnam and was commander of the LRRP School. He was a Green Beret but also proud to be a Ranger, retiring as Major in 1975. Ed was a life member of the VFW 5520. Ed and Dot spent many winters as snowbirds in Florida.
We will miss his love of life, adventure and orneriness.
