Betty Tanner Obituary

Betty Jo Tanner, 81 of Normal transferred to her Heavenly Home on Monday June 17, 2019.  Betty was born in Savannah, GA on October 22, 1937, the daughter of Wilson and Thelma Brown (Turner).  She married Robert C. Tanner March 4, 1955 at Ft. Lauderdale, FL and he preceded her in death on June 5, 1990.

She is survived by three daughters, Karen Carrigan (Terry) of Normal,  Kimberli Tanner of New Mexico, Patti Flores (Elvin) of Bloomington, a brother, Teddy Brown (Dee) of Irwinville, GA, grandchildren, Joshua, Sarah, Elyse and Shaquille, great grandchildren, Rydan, Jeremiah, Linkin, Rowan and Rayne.  She is preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Myrna Ann Brown.

Betty was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bloomington.  She and her husband transferred with GTE to Ft. Wayne, IN.  She returned to Normal in 2003 to be closer to her children and grandchildren.

Betty enjoyed gardening.  She had a green thumb and was proud of her flowers and plants.  She was an avid dog lover.  She was generous with her time and liked to cook and bake for family members.  Betty was an avid Illini Basketball Fan.  She enjoyed shopping for bargains and giving to missions and others.  She shared the gospel of Jesus Christ whenever the opportunity arose.  She loved her family and her dear friends, Lynn and Pat.

Private services and burial were held on Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Woodlawn Cemetery chapel in Urbana.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
